Organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 2026 have officially closed voting for this year’s edition, setting the stage for winners to be announced on May 9.
Broadcaster Africa Magic confirmed the development in a social media post on Sunday, thanking viewers who participated in the audience voting categories.
“Voting has officially closed. The #AMVCA12 votes are in! Huge thank you to everyone who supported their favourites, you made your voices count,” the organisers said, adding that anticipation now builds ahead of the awards night.
The ceremony will air live across Africa Magic channels, with the red carpet segment scheduled for 4:00 p.m. WAT, followed by the main awards presentation at 7:00 p.m. WAT.
This year’s edition features a total of 32 categories. Of these, 18 will be decided by a jury, 11 by public voting, while three special honours — including Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards — will also be presented.
Veteran actress Joke Silva is serving as Head Judge, succeeding filmmaker Femi Odugbemi.
Organisers have also expanded the scope of the awards with the introduction of two new categories: Best Indigenous Language Film (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language Film (Central Africa), reflecting a broader continental focus.
Among this year’s nominees are Lateef Adedimeji, Scarlet Gomez, Funke Akindele, Bimbo Akintola, and Uzor Arukwe.
With voting concluded, attention now shifts to the final results as the industry prepares for one of its biggest nights celebrating excellence in African film and television.
