Nigeria’s largest carrier, Air Peace Limited, has grounded one of its aircraft operating the London–Lagos route after it suffered a bird strike.
In a statement posted on X and signed by the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe on Friday, the airline said the incident affected its service from London Gatwick Airport to Lagos.
The statement read, “We wish to inform our esteemed passengers that our London (Gatwick) – Lagos service today experienced a bird strike.”
The airline added that the aircraft had been grounded in line with safety procedures. “In line with standard safety protocols, the affected aircraft has been grounded for comprehensive inspection and necessary checks by our engineering team in London,” it said.
The disruption affected passengers scheduled on the route, with the airline apologising for the inconvenience.
“We sincerely empathize with passengers affected for any inconvenience caused by this unforeseen incident and appreciate your patience,” the statement read.
Air Peace said it had contacted affected passengers and outlined alternative arrangements. “Passengers affected have been communicated on our next line of action as we work diligently to minimize disruptions across our network,” it added.
The airline restated its safety commitment, saying, “Air Peace remains unwavering in its commitment to the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.”
