The case involving the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, has been forwarded by the Nigeria Police Force to the Attorney General of the Federation for prosecution.
The development follows the confirmation by the Police Service Commission of the dismissal of officers found culpable in the incident, as disciplinary and legal processes continue.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, disclosed this on Sunday during a briefing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, stating that the move marks a key step toward ensuring justice is served.
He explained that the case file has been formally submitted to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for vetting and prosecution, adding that the police will cooperate fully with the AGF’s office to ensure the matter is concluded in court.
Placid further confirmed that ASP Nuhu and three other officers involved in the incident have been arrested and are currently in custody.
He added that internal disciplinary procedures have been completed, while the Police Service Commission has approved their dismissal, which now takes immediate effect.
Investigations into the April 26 incident reportedly established that the officers were guilty of professional misconduct, abuse of office, and conduct capable of causing a breach of public peace.
Placid maintained that the Nigeria Police Force does not shield erring officers, stressing that no personnel is above the law.
