Omar Marmoush scored a rare league goal as Manchester City defeated Brentford 3-0 in the Premier League over the weekend to maintain pressure on leaders Arsenal.
The Egypt international netted only his second league goal of the campaign after latching onto a pass from Erling Haaland before calmly finishing past goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
City remain five points behind Arsenal but still have a game in hand. The Gunners boosted their title hopes with a narrow 1-0 victory over West Ham and can secure the crown with wins against Burnley and Crystal Palace.
AFP Sport highlighted several African players who made headlines across Europe’s top leagues:
England
OMAR MARMOUSH (Manchester City)
The Egyptian forward was introduced in the second half alongside Haaland as Pep Guardiola searched for goals, and the pair combined effectively with Marmoush finishing clinically from the Norwegian’s assist.
YANKUBA MINTEH (Brighton)
The Gambian winger was among the scorers as Brighton thrashed relegated Wolves 3-0 to strengthen their top-six ambitions. Minteh completed an impressive team move before firing home his third goal of the season.
ISMAILA SARR (Crystal Palace)
Sarr continued his strong form by scoring his 20th goal of the season in Palace’s 2-2 draw against Everton. The Senegalese attacker reacted quickly after his first attempt was blocked to score on the rebound.
BETO (Everton)
The Guinea-Bissau striker also found the net at Selhurst Park with a solo effort that briefly gave Everton the lead. His strike marked his 10th goal of the season, although Everton were eventually held to a draw.
Spain
EZ ABDE (Real Betis)
The Moroccan winger produced a fine finish into the top corner during Betis’ 2-2 draw with Real Sociedad. The 24-year-old has now scored five times in his last six outings for the club.
AKOR ADAMS (Sevilla)
Nigeria forward Adams scored a stoppage-time winner in Sevilla’s 2-1 victory over Espanyol, helping the club move further away from the relegation zone. He has scored twice in his last four appearances.
Germany
BAZOUMANA TOURE (Hoffenheim)
The Ivory Coast striker netted the decisive goal in Hoffenheim’s 1-0 win against Werder Bremen to keep their Champions League hopes alive. Toure’s strike was his third in five matches as Hoffenheim stayed level on points with fourth-placed Stuttgart heading into the final round of fixtures.
