Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold has shared a deeply personal account of a severe sickle cell crisis he experienced at the age of 20, describing it as one of the most painful moments of his life.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Angela Yee, the singer recalled that the episode left him overwhelmed by intense pain and emotionally drained.
According to him, the crisis was so severe that he reached a point where he wished for death, noting that even his mother, who usually corrected him when he expressed despair, did not intervene that night due to the intensity of his condition.
He explained that the experience remains one of the lowest points of his health journey but also one that reinforced his gratitude for survival and ongoing management of sickle cell disease.
“At 20, I had the craziest crisis of my life. I told God to cake my life. And my mom couldn’t even rebuke me. Normally, she would but that night, it got to a point where it felt like the only thing that makes sense should just happen,” he said.
Adekunle Gold, who has been open about living with sickle cell disorder, continues to advocate awareness while managing the condition alongside his music career.
His revelation adds to ongoing conversations around chronic illness and the emotional toll it can take on young people living with long-term health challenges.
