Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, the Kebbi State High Court judge abducted by bandits a week ago, has regained his freedom and returned home safely, bringing relief to his family and the state’s judiciary.
A family member confirmed the judge’s release on Monday, saying he arrived home only a few hours before speaking with journalists.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the family member said.
The family also expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies and residents of the state for their support, prayers and solidarity throughout the period of the judge’s captivity.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the relative added.
The family said details surrounding the circumstances of Justice Bunza’s release would be made public at a later time.
“Other details of how he was released will be made available later,” the source said.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kebbi State Judiciary nor security agencies had issued an official statement on the judge’s release.
Justice Bunza’s abduction last week sparked widespread concern across Kebbi State, prompting calls from the public and stakeholders for his immediate and safe release.
