Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has emerged as the consensus presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, ahead of the 2027 general election. Sowore secured the party’s endorsement during its presidential primary, where members unanimously backed his candidacy.
Announcing the decision, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Kayode Babayemi, said the endorsement reflects the party’s trust in Sowore’s leadership and dedication to democratic principles.
Babayemi said the AAC remains confident in Sowore’s commitment to justice, freedom and good governance, while commending party members and supporters for their continued solidarity.
Accepting the nomination, Sowore described the AAC as a genuine opposition platform committed to presenting Nigerians with a credible political alternative. He said the party has remained resilient despite political pressure and has resisted external influence and godfatherism.
Sowore also defended the party’s record of activism and political engagement, recalling its RevolutionNow movement launched in 2019 as part of its campaign for democratic reforms.
