Nigerian businessman and philanthropist Olakunle Churchill has dismissed online reports alleging that he was arrested in Switzerland over claims of tax evasion, describing the story as false and misleading.
The rumours, which circulated across social media and blogs, claimed that Churchill had been detained in connection with an investigation involving a company engaged in agricultural importation and international trade. The reports further alleged that the firm had business ties with the Churchill Group of Companies.
Responding to the claims in a statement shared on his Instagram page, Churchill rejected the allegations and accused those behind the reports of spreading misinformation driven by jealousy.
“We Nigerians can sometimes be our own biggest problem. The jealousy, negativity, and constant spread of false information are exhausting,” he wrote.
The businessman said his decision to keep parts of his personal and professional life away from public scrutiny should not be interpreted as an attempt to conceal wrongdoing.
“Over the years, I have chosen to keep many aspects of my personal and business life private. That choice should never be mistaken for having something to hide. Privacy is a principle I value, and I intend to keep it that way,” he stated.
Churchill also sought to clear any doubts about his legal status, insisting that no criminal investigation or court proceedings are pending against him.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I have no police case, no court case, and no criminal matter whatsoever. Any claims suggesting otherwise are entirely false and should be treated as such.”
Reaffirming his commitment to his work, Churchill said he remains focused on growing his businesses, creating opportunities and supporting charitable causes rather than responding to speculation.
“My focus remains on building businesses, creating opportunities, supporting meaningful causes, and continuing the work that truly matters. Those who know me understand that my values, actions, and consistency speak far louder than speculation.”
He concluded by expressing gratitude for what he described as God’s protection and guidance, adding that he would continue to move forward with integrity and faith despite the rumours.
Churchill’s statement comes amid widespread online discussion over the allegations, with the businessman firmly maintaining that the reports are entirely unfounded.
