Big Brother Naija host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has criticised the Season 11 housemates for what he described as a disappointing start to the competition, accusing many of them of lacking energy and failing to take initiative during the opening week.
Speaking during Sunday’s live eviction show, Ebuka said he initially assumed the contestants needed time to settle into the house. However, he noted that their performances in key activities failed to improve as the week progressed.
“I thought it was just day two and you all were trying to acclimatise. Then the wager task happened, but the build-up to it was lackadaisical, especially from the ladies. I did not want to think too much of it,” he said.
The television host also expressed disappointment with the house’s first pool party, describing it as one of the week’s least engaging moments.
“But then, I watched the pool party. It was more like I did not watch it because I went to bed at some point because it was not just it,” Ebuka remarked.
Summing up his assessment of the contestants, Ebuka said many housemates appeared to be waiting for opportunities instead of creating memorable moments themselves.
“I have been trying to find the word to describe the week, and I think the right word to use is that so many of you are waiting for things to happen, and not many of you are making things happen,” he said.
His remarks served as a challenge to the contestants to become more intentional with their gameplay, interactions and entertainment value as the competition enters its second week.
BBNaija Season 11, themed “Show Ya Sef,” features 24 housemates competing over 10 weeks for the ₦160 million grand prize. With the stakes rising and nominations already underway, viewers will be watching closely to see whether the housemates respond to Ebuka’s call by bringing more energy, strategy and drama to the game.
