Vice President says Federal Government will support viable business projects as Delta unveils $100 million investment fund and 12,000 hectares for agriculture…..
Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting credible private sector investments, assuring investors that viable business projects will receive the necessary backing to thrive in Nigeria.
Shettima gave the assurance on Monday while speaking at the Delta Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba, where government officials, business leaders and investors gathered to explore opportunities for economic growth and investment in the state.
The summit, designed to boost investor confidence and strengthen partnerships between the public and private sectors, is expected to attract both local and foreign investments across key sectors of the economy.
Addressing participants, the Vice President described the growing number of investment summits across Nigeria as a positive development, saying it reflects healthy competition among states seeking to attract capital and accelerate economic development.
According to him, improved revenue available to sub-national governments has strengthened their capacity to create an enabling environment for businesses and pursue ambitious development initiatives.
At the event, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced that his administration has established a $100 million viability gap fund to reduce investment risks and encourage private sector participation in major projects across the state.
The governor said the fund, valued at approximately ₦133.8 billion, is intended to de-risk strategic investments and make Delta a more attractive destination for domestic and international investors.
Oborevwori also disclosed that the state has designated more than 12,000 hectares of farmland for agricultural development, creating fresh opportunities for investors interested in large-scale farming and agro-processing.
He identified cassava, rice, oil palm, potato and other cash crops as key areas with strong commercial potential, noting that the initiative is aimed at expanding agricultural production and strengthening the state’s agribusiness value chains.
The governor further highlighted Delta State’s extensive coastline, stretching between one and three kilometres in several locations, as a major asset capable of driving investments in the marine and blue economy.
He said the state’s natural resources, strategic location and investment-friendly policies position it as one of Nigeria’s emerging destinations for sustainable economic growth.
The summit forms part of Delta State’s broader strategy to attract long-term investments, create jobs and stimulate inclusive economic development through stronger collaboration with the private sector.
