Tobi Amusan has attributed her inability to retain the women’s 100m hurdles title at the 2026 Commonwealth Games to an injury setback.
The Nigerian world record holder finished third in Thursday’s final after clocking 12.60 seconds, missing out on a third consecutive Commonwealth gold medal.
Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton claimed the gold medal with a time of 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons took silver after finishing in 12.41 seconds.
Amusan had previously won the event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and the 2022 edition in Birmingham.
Speaking after the race, the 100m hurdles star disclosed that a training injury affected her preparations for the competition.
“I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I’ve been a bit concerned about my knee coming into this meet. But I’m just thankful I was able to hold it together and get on the podium once again,” Amusan revealed.
