Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United over a €90 million (£77 million) deal for Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
The Gunners had previously seen two bids worth £55 million and £70 million rejected by Newcastle before returning with an improved offer for the 28-year-old.
Guimaraes is said to be keen on a move to Arsenal and has already agreed personal terms with Mikel Arteta’s side.
According to L’Equipe, both clubs have agreed on the initial transfer fee and are now discussing additional bonuses and agent-related payments, with a final agreement expected in the coming days.
Lyon, Guimaraes’ former club, are set to benefit from the deal, with a 20 per cent sell-on clause expected to earn them more than €8 million (£6.8 million).
Meanwhile, reports from talkSPORT suggest the midfielder has asked Newcastle to delay his return to their pre-season camp in La Manga, fuelling speculation that a move to Arsenal could be completed soon.
Guimaraes was scheduled to resume training with Newcastle on Monday after representing Brazil at the World Cup, but his desire to continue playing in the Champions League has reportedly influenced his decision to leave.
Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season and will not feature in European competitions next campaign, while Eddie Howe’s departure has further increased uncertainty around the club.
