The search for answers over the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area has entered a new phase, with Oyo State Governor ,Seyi Makinde ,inaugurating a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the incident.
The eight-member panel, chaired by Prof. Mojeed Owoade, is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the May 15, 2026 abduction at Esinele and Yawota communities.
Speaking during the inauguration at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, Makinde said the inquiry was aimed at establishing the facts of the incident and ensuring that lessons are learned.
The governor stressed that the commission was not created to question the efforts of security agencies, but to identify gaps, answer critical questions, and develop measures to prevent similar attacks. He mandated the panel to examine possible institutional and operational failures, while recommending strategies to improve the protection of schools and vulnerable communities.
Makinde assured the commission of the government’s support and gave it four weeks to conclude its assignment, with room for an extension if more time is required.
The chairman of the commission, Prof. Owoade, pledged that the panel’s findings would be based solely on facts, assuring that “nothing but the truth will form their reports and recommendation.”
