A day after his arrest, Osun State Secretary to the Government, Teslim Igbalaiye, has been released from police custody following public concerns over his detention.
The development was confirmed by the Osun State Police Command and announced by Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council, the group backing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign.
Olajengbesi said the release followed appeals for due process, while commending the Inspector General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police for responding to calls over the matter.
The police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, also confirmed Igbalaiye’s release in Osogbo.
Igbalaiye and five others were taken into custody on Wednesday after police operatives carried out a raid at his residence in Osogbo. The command said the operation was based on intelligence about a suspected criminal group operating from the location, adding that one of those arrested, Oladele Abiodun, was already on the police watchlist.
Police said the operation led to the recovery of ₦4.81 million cash, two Permanent Voter Cards, a voter register, a Dynabook laptop, a photocopy machine and a printer.
The recovered items, according to the command, have been secured for forensic analysis and further investigation, with police raising concerns over possible electoral offences and other criminal activities linked to the materials found.
Other suspects arrested during the operation include Akande Taiwo, Adeyemo Lukman, Olaoye Muftau and Aderemi Musliu.
The Osun State Police Command said investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
