The Slovenian official faced criticism for his handling of Argentina’s physical approach during their 1-0 defeat to Spain, including the decision to send off Enzo Fernandez shortly before extra time.
FIFA has also opened an investigation into the confrontation that occurred after the final, involving players and coaching staff from both teams.
Confirming Vincic’s retirement, the Slovenian Football Association stated: “A week after the World Cup final in the USA, Slavko Vincic officially concluded his historic refereeing career at the top of the world.”
