Thousands of students from Kenya’s coastal region turned out on Sunday in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Records record by planting 5,000 mangrove seedlings simultaneously in under 30 seconds.
The students from various schools gathered at the Kwa Fara beachfront in Jomvu constituency, eager to demonstrate their contribution to the world on environmental conservation.
The event, held in Mombasa County, coincided with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, where environmentalists urged the nation, especially coastal residents, to protect mangrove forests because of their immense benefits to people and marine life.
