Actress and Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) National Vice President Dayo Amusa has called on actors to take a more active role in promoting the films they appear in, saying their responsibility extends beyond performing on set.
In a message shared with AGN members on Instagram, Amusa said many actors still assume their work ends once filming is completed. She argued that the realities of today’s Nollywood demand greater involvement in marketing completed projects.
According to her, acting is only part of the process, while ensuring audiences see the finished work is equally important. She noted that whenever an actor’s image appears on a movie poster, they also have a responsibility to help publicize the project.
Amusa stressed that promoting a film is not a favour to producers but an investment in an actor’s own career and future opportunities.
She outlined four reasons actors should actively support every project they feature in. According to her, consistent promotion strengthens an actor’s personal brand, increases the chances of a film’s commercial success, protects the effort invested during production, and contributes to the overall growth of Nollywood.
The actress added that actors have significant influence over their audiences, noting that a single social media post from a cast member can attract viewers to cinemas or boost a film’s performance on streaming platforms.
Encouraging her colleagues to adopt the practice as an industry standard, Amusa urged actors to support projects through social media posts, media interviews, and attendance at film premieres throughout a movie’s publicity campaign.
She concluded by encouraging AGN members to be not only talented performers but also visible advocates for their work, expressing hope that stronger promotional efforts would help elevate Nollywood’s global profile.
