Concerned by delays in the renovation of key primary healthcare centres, the Benue State Government has directed contractors to speed up work and meet approved construction standards.
The directive was issued by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Ogwuche, during an inspection of six healthcare projects across the state.
The facilities, funded by the Global Fund through UNICEF, are being upgraded to improve access to quality healthcare services, particularly for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children under five.
Ogwuche said he was dissatisfied with the pace of work, noting that contractors had exceeded the original six-week completion timeline.
He also ordered corrections to defects observed during the inspection, including roofing and structural adjustments, to ensure the projects meet required specifications.
Five of the centres are being renovated and expanded, while the Primary Health Centre in Asa, Otukpo Local Government Area, is being rebuilt as a new facility.
The contractors apologised for the delay and pledged to complete and hand over all six projects to the Benue State Government by July 30, 2026.
