The father of the late Mary Habila, Tanko Habila Wisdom, has appealed for the immediate release of his daughter’s body for burial, saying he does not want an autopsy conducted and is not suspecting anyone in connection with her death.
Speaking in a video statement, Wisdom said his only concern was to retrieve his daughter’s remains for burial, insisting that her body should not be kept in the mortuary any longer.
“I am Tanko Habila Wisdom, the father of the late Mary Habila. I don’t have much to say in this case, all that I want is the corpse of my daughter.”
He lamented the continued retention of the body, describing it as unnecessary, and urged the relevant authorities to release it without further delay.
“You don’t keep corpse of a little child for so long just like this and that’s why I am here to say once and for all that I need the corpse of my daughter to take her for burial. That’s what I am standing on.”
Wisdom also stated that he does not support calls for an autopsy, maintaining that his family’s priority is to give the deceased a dignified burial.
“I don’t want the autopsy and that’s why I am demanding the corpse of my daughter to go and bury her now.”
He further disclosed that the family had maintained a cordial relationship with the Minister of Works, where the deceased was employed, stressing that they had no reason to suspect foul play
“We have been having very cordial relationship with the Minister of Works, her workplace and we don’t want that autopsy they are talking about.”
The bereaved father emphasised that he was not accusing anyone over his daughter’s death, noting that death is an inevitable part of life.
“I am not suspecting anybody because death can occur at anytime even as we are standing here and now, one can fall here and die.”
His remarks come amid public interest surrounding the circumstances of Mary Habila’s death, with the family now urging authorities to release her body to enable her burial.
