Supporters of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde stormed Kano metropolis, flooding streets with posters as part of efforts to mobilize support for his 2027 presidential ambition.
The event was organized by the Northern Nigeria Support Group for Seyi Makinde, which also held a special prayer and horse race to drum up support for the governor.
Addressing newsmen in Kano, the National President of the group, Babangida Abubakar Haruna, said the group is presenting what it described as a “brand new candidate” with the capacity to change Nigeria for the better.
“There are so many things he can do for Nigeria judging by what he has done in Oyo State where he has been a governor for almost eight years now. We have seen his capacity, we have seen the infrastructure he has put in place and we have seen a lot of achievements there,” Haruna stated.
He praised Makinde for his consistency and loyalty, describing him as a man of his word who has remained in his political party despite pressure from the ruling party.
“Look at his stance, he is somebody that has not decamped despite threats from the ruling party. We have confidence in him because he is a man of his words and we are sure he will not betray Nigerians,” he added.
According to him, the prayer and horse race were organized to draw the attention of northerners to consider Governor Makinde, stressing that there is an excellent relationship between the North and the Yoruba people.
“He is a young man, he has done it in Oyo State, we have all seen it. Go to Oyo State and see for yourself. He is an experienced person that has good records,” Haruna said.
He called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the best, adding that “power comes from God Almighty and He gives it to whom He wills.”
The group urged eligible voters, especially youths, to obtain their PVCs and participate actively in the 2027 general elections.
