Funmi Adelakun, daughter of veteran Nigerian gospel singer and televangelist Joseph Adelakun, has publicly accused her father of maltreatment and appealed for help, claiming she has been denied her freedom.
The 37-year-old made the allegations in a video shared on social media by Megatestimony, where she asked members of the public to intervene and plead with her father on her behalf.
In the video, Funmi claimed she had been subjected to close monitoring for a prolonged period and expressed a desire to live independently.
“I need my freedom. They should stop monitoring me,” she said.
Introducing herself in the video, she appealed directly to the public for assistance.
“Good day everyone, my name is Funmi Adelakun. What I need is your help. Please help me beg my father to set me free. I need my freedom because what is happening now is very deep. I need my freedom. They should stop monitoring me and try to have access to things about me.
“This has been going on for a long time. I need my freedom and this is the height of it. I will explain better soon,” she added.
According to reports, Funmi has reportedly left her family’s residence in Lagos.
As of the time of filing this report, Joseph Adelakun had not publicly responded to the allegations. There has also been no official statement from him addressing his daughter’s claims.
The allegations remain unverified, and no independent evidence has been presented publicly to substantiate the claims made in the video.
