Actor Jim Iyke has described the entertainment industry as an environment that largely encourages self-glorification, arguing that its culture reflects values he associates with Satanism.
Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Joey Akan, the Nollywood star said many creatives are tempted to elevate themselves above others because of the admiration that comes with fame.
According to Iyke, creativity mirrors God’s ability to create, but he believes problems arise when entertainers begin placing themselves at the centre of worship instead of God.
He said serving personal ambition above God creates a spiritual conflict, adding that excessive self-exaltation amounts to self-worship.
Reflecting on his own experience, the actor admitted that there was a period when the attention he received from fans made him feel extraordinary.
Iyke recalled witnessing emotional reactions from admirers who cried upon seeing him, saying he once interpreted those moments as proof that he was special. However, he said his understanding changed after embracing a deeper relationship with God.
The actor explained that he now views such admiration as a form of idolatry rather than a measure of personal importance.
He further argued that the entertainment industry enables destructive behaviour more than many other professions and was largely built around values that do not promote godliness.
While acknowledging that people of faith exist within the industry, Iyke maintained that anyone seeking to reflect godly values in entertainment must do so intentionally because the environment naturally encourages the opposite.
He concluded by saying that true fulfilment comes from maintaining a relationship with God, adding that discovering one’s spiritual purpose is what gives lasting meaning, even in an industry he believes is largely disconnected from divine values.
