Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has revealed that he still hopes to complete his tertiary education despite achieving fame in the music industry.
Speaking in a preview of the Honest Brunch Podcast, scheduled for release on YouTube on Monday, the singer reflected on his educational journey, financial struggles and rise to stardom.
Portable disclosed that he was unable to complete his studies after financial difficulties made it impossible to continue paying his tuition.
“I go still finish school as I dey like this. I no finish school,” he said.
The singer recalled selling sachet water while trying to fund his education before eventually dropping out after losing financial support.
According to him, he gained admission into Kwara State Polytechnic through the institution’s indigene quota to study Business Administration but could not finish the programme because of the cost of schooling.
Describing the experience as one of his biggest regrets, Portable said he still intends to return and earn his qualification.
“Na Kwara Poly pain me pass. I be student… Na indigene this thing I use enter. I studied Business Administration,” he said.
The singer also reflected on how his life has changed, saying he was once considered the least academically gifted among his siblings but now provides financial support for his father, while his sisters are employed.
“Person wey dem dey call olodo for my family na me still dey feed my papa now,” he said.
Encouraging young people to value education, Portable said academic qualifications are important but should not be seen as the only route to success. He maintained that people can achieve success first and return to complete their education later, adding that he remains determined to do the same.
