UK Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has urged England to make a fast start in their World Cup last16 match against Mexico, saying she hopes the team can avoid another tense encounter like the one against DR Congo that left supporters on edge.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s game, Badenoch admitted she could not bear to relive the anxiety of England’s previous outing, describing the experience as emotionally draining.
“I don’t think I can go through what we went through in the match with Congo. It was very, very hair-raising early on, so I will wake up and watch the highlights,” she said.
The Conservative leader encouraged the England players to take control of the match from the opening minutes, saying an early flurry of goals would ease the nerves of fans watching at home.
“Go for it, score as many goals in the first five minutes so that everybody watching can relax and maybe even get some sleep,” Badenoch said.
Her comments reflected the tension many England supporters experienced during the previous match and underscored her hope for a more comfortable performance in the team’s next outing.
