Nollywood actress Scarlet Gomez has shared her thoughts on public perception, saying a person’s character is not always reflected in how others choose to see them.
In a post on Instagram, Gomez said she has come to realise that being kind or well-intentioned does not guarantee people will form an accurate opinion about someone.
According to the actress, personal biases often shape public perception more than facts, with some individuals choosing to judge others based on assumptions rather than firsthand experience.
She also alleged that some people intentionally attempt to tarnish another person’s reputation after failing to manipulate, control or influence them.
Gomez expressed concern about how rumours can spread quickly and eventually be accepted as truth, even by people who have never had direct contact with the individual concerned.
She noted that repeated falsehoods have the potential to undermine years of hard work and damage a person’s reputation.
Despite this, the actress said people should focus on what they can control rather than becoming consumed by narratives created by others.
She encouraged her followers to remain confident in their identity and self-worth, stressing that knowing who they are should matter more than rumours or public opinion.
“You can’t control stories you didn’t write,” Gomez wrote, adding that people will either believe the rumours or take the time to know the real person behind them.
