Two of the three families who lost loved ones in the June 2024 protests say that no form of reparation can ever make up for the loss of their children, who were killed during the nationwide demonstrations.
Although they expect to receive financial compensation from the government for the killings, the family of Austin Makokha has explained that, according to Luhya cultural traditions, they cannot use the money because such payments are considered “blood money.”
