A joint security operation in Anambra State has left four suspected gunmen dead, with authorities recovering a large cache of weapons, explosives, and other items linked to criminal activity. Police say the suspects were killed during a confrontation with security operatives along the Ogboji–Ajalli Road in Orumba South Local Government Area on Tuesday.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated that heavily armed suspects were moving through the area in a Toyota Sienna vehicle.
Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, says security operatives engaged the suspects in a gun battle, resulting in the deaths of four members of the group, while others reportedly escaped into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.
Recovered items include a General Purpose Machine Gun with 53 rounds of linked ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, and four undetonated improvised explosive devices.
Security operatives also recovered police camouflage uniforms, a Toyota Sienna bus, mobile phones, a laptop computer, a Point-of-Sale machine, power banks, charms, ATM cards, and identification documents. The police say search operations have been intensified across the area to track down the fleeing suspects and recover any additional weapons or equipment.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at tackling criminal activities and improving security across the state.
