The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has welcomed the conviction and sentencing of the man found guilty of killing two young Nigerians, Chibueze Momah and Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe, during a nightclub shooting in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, nearly four years ago.
In a statement signed by the Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of the Commission, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NiDCOM described the judgment as a significant step toward justice and accountability for the victims and their families.
According to the Commission, the Ontario Court of Justice sentenced the offender to life imprisonment with no eligibility for parole for 25 years after finding him guilty on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawfully causing bodily harm.
The tragic shooting occurred on July 23, 2022, at a nightclub in Vaughan, Ontario, where Momah and Amos-Arowoshegbe lost their lives in an incident that shocked both the Nigerian and Canadian communities.
NiDCOM noted that while no court ruling can reverse the devastating loss suffered by the victims’ families or erase the pain of their deaths, the judgment offers an important measure of closure after years of grief and uncertainty.
The Commission expressed solidarity with the bereaved families and commended the Canadian judicial authorities for ensuring that justice was served.
One of the victims, Chibueze Momah, was 22 years old at the time of his death. He was described as a bright and ambitious young Nigerian who had recently obtained a diploma in Computer Programming and was pursuing a career in the technology industry.

Momah, the only son of Mr. Ikechukwu Momah, was remembered by family members and friends as a hardworking and determined young man who aspired to build a successful future in Canada while supporting his family.
NiDCOM reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Nigerians living abroad and pledged continued support for diaspora communities facing challenges across the world.
The Commission also urged Nigerians in the diaspora to remain law-abiding and continue contributing positively to their host communities while maintaining strong ties with their homeland. This version is written in a conventional newspaper style with a clear headline, strong lead, balanced tone, and appropriate attribution.
