Kwara State House of Assembly Monday insisted that the last governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were held peacefully across the 193 wards of the state.
The House also disagreed with ten governorship aspirants and the APC Elders Caucus over allegations of phantom governorship primaries on the said day.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Monday on the sidelines of the opposition mounted against the emergence of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly as governorship candidate of the APC for the 2027 elections, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, the House Leader, Hon. Oba Abdulkadir Magaji, said: “I can tell you categorically there was a primary election where Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu emerged as the winner of the governorship ticket of the APC.”
According to him, “it is unfair for anybody to come to a national television that there was no election”.
He said, “Going to Abuja or national television to give this information is total misinformation.
“I participated in the primaries that took place in my constituency in Kwara Central.
“I have video evidence to support this claim. I want to put it to the public that if they were aware that there was no primary, what were they waiting for since May 22, 2026, when the primary was held and the result announced, till June before saying there was no primary?”
Magaji said, “Therefore, we, the members of the various constituencies in the 10th legislature of the State House of Assembly today, speak with one voice to affirm our unwavering loyalty and commitment to the leadership of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
“After due consultation and collective deliberation, we also wish to publicly declare our unanimous support for Speaker Salihu as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
“We are confident in his experience, leadership capacity and vision to consolidate on the achievements recorded by the present administration and to advance the development of our dear state.”
