Afrobeats superstar Davido transformed his performance at the FIFA World Cup countdown concert in Los Angeles on Wednesday into a powerful call for the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area in Oyo State.
The singer used the global stage to draw attention to the ongoing captivity of the victims, wearing a customised black leather jacket designed with green circular markers bearing the names of those abducted.
According to reports, names of individuals still in captivity were written in white, while those confirmed dead were marked in red. The back of the jacket carried the inscription “Bring Them Home,” as he paired the outfit with a white T-shirt featuring “Nigeria” across the chest.
Before his performance, Davido spoke backstage about the situation, expressing deep concern over the incident and calling for swift intervention from both federal and state authorities. He also urged continued prayers for the victims and their families.
He noted that the abducted pupils and teachers had not yet been rescued, describing the situation as distressing and reflective of broader security challenges facing the country.
“Peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed,” he said.
“They still haven’t been rescued, we’re praying to God every day. We’re also praying to God that the government hastens… My country is going through a lot. We represent everywhere we go.”
The concert is part of a global build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, where Davido was billed as a headline performer.
His appearance further highlights the growing international influence of Afrobeats, as Nigerian artists continue to feature prominently in global sports and entertainment events.
Davido is also listed on the official 2026 FIFA World Cup soundtrack album alongside fellow Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Rema, and Ayra Starr.
