Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Andy Robertson on a free transfer following his exit from Liverpool F.C..
According to BBC Sport, the 32-year-old left-back will officially link up with Spurs on July 1 after his contract at Liverpool expires, ending a seven-year spell at Anfield marked by major success.
Robertson had already informed Liverpool of his intention to leave this summer, clearing the way for Tottenham to secure his services without a transfer fee. The North London side had also explored a move for him during the January transfer window under Thomas Frank, with an agreement reportedly reached between both clubs, but Liverpool later pulled out after failing to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma.
Tottenham, who ensured Premier League survival on the final day of the season under new boss Roberto De Zerbi, have now added the experienced defender to their squad.
“Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” De Zerbi said.
“He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch.”
