The bravado and champion mentality inherent in Nairobi’s flamboyant matatu sub-culture, popularly known as “nganya” culture, has left five people dead and scores others nursing serious injuries.
The ill-fated vehicle, carrying 33 passengers, overturned on Wednesday night along Enterprise Road in the Industrial Area while performing a dangerous stunt dubbed “nyoka nyoka” and “twerk.” The fatalities include three conductors and two passengers, whose bodies are currently preserved at the Nairobi Funeral Home.
