The National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Osa Director, has said the party will not ignore complaints from members over the conduct of its primary elections, as concerns continue to trail the exercise in some states.
Speaking during an interview with ARISE News on Thursday, Director responded to questions about allegations of candidate imposition and dissatisfaction among some aspirants. He said the party remained committed to a transparent process and would address concerns raised by its members.
“Certainly, we cannot ignore our party members,” he said.
Director rejected suggestions that the NDC had failed the test of internal democracy, arguing that the party had followed the provisions of the Electoral Act in selecting its candidates.
According to him, candidates emerged through either consensus or direct primaries, depending on the circumstances in each contest.
“Over 50 percent of our candidates emerge through consensus,” he said.
He added that direct primaries were conducted in places where aspirants could not agree on a candidate.
Director acknowledged that the party faced challenges during the exercise but insisted that it was prepared to deal with them openly.
“We are going to confront these challenges with a sense of sincerity, with a sense of transparency, with a sense of accountability,” he said.
He also noted that the NDC is a relatively new political party and had conducted membership registration, congresses and primary elections across the country within a short period.
Director said the party would continue working to ensure that members feel included in its activities as it prepares for the 2027 general election.
