Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has publicly criticised the music industry, describing it as “very wicked” over what he sees as a lack of support from fellow artistes.
The rapper, whose real name is Emeka Akumefule, voiced his frustration in a post shared on X, where he complained that several colleagues failed to promote his latest song, “Chanel,” despite his consistent support for their projects.
Blaqbonez said he regularly shares music released by other artistes on his social media platforms but does not receive the same treatment when he drops new material.
“I think this [music] industry is very wicked because since I dropped Chanel, none of my peers have posted it,” he wrote.
The rapper also mentioned international artistes including Drake, Central Cee, Future and Gunna, saying he had supported their releases online in the past.
“@Drake I posted yours last week, @centralcee @1future @1GunnaGunna I support you when you drop but when I put out the biggest song of the summer it’s crickets, the double standards,” he added.
This is not the first time Blaqbonez has spoken out against practices within the music industry.
In 2023, the rapper alleged that some artistes were using streaming farms to artificially increase music streams and influence chart rankings.
His claims were dismissed at the time by music executive Don Jazzy and rapper Odumodublvck, among others. However, Blaqbonez maintained that stream manipulation exists and argued that it has caused lasting damage to the Nigerian music scene.
The latest comments have reignited conversations online about competition, industry politics, and the level of support artistes receive from their peers.
