Nigerian superstars Wizkid, Asake, Burna Boy, and Tems have earned major nominations at the 2026 BET Awards, further cementing Afrobeats’ global influence.
The nominations were announced on Tuesday ahead of the ceremony scheduled for Sunday, June 28, 2026, in Los Angeles, United States.
Wizkid and Asake nominated as a duo
Wizkid and Asake secured a joint nomination in the Best Group category, following their collaborative efforts and a string of hit releases that have dominated charts across Africa and beyond.
Tems leads African representation
Tems emerged as one of the most nominated African artists this year, earning three nominations across key categories. She was recognised in Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, the BET Her Award for her song “First”, and the Viewers’ Choice Award for “Raindance”, her collaboration with British rapper Dave.
Burna Boy earns collaboration nod
Burna Boy was nominated in the Best Collaboration category for “WGFT”, his feature on Gunna’s track, continuing his streak of international recognition in major award circuits.
Strong Nigerian presence continues
The nominations highlight Nigeria’s sustained dominance in global music spaces. Wizkid remains one of Africa’s most decorated BET winners, while Burna Boy has consistently featured in international categories. Tems has also built a strong award record, including previous wins on the global stage.
Past Nigerian winners at the BET Awards include Davido, 2Baba, D’banj, Ice Prince, and Ayra Starr, who won Best International Act in 2025.
Beyond music, Nigerian talent also appeared in acting categories, with Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo nominated for Best Actress, while Damson Idris earned a Best Actor nomination.
The 2026 BET Awards will feature a wide range of categories spanning music, film, sports, and culture, with the full nominee list now officially released ahead of the ceremony.
