The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed that its presidential primary election for the 2027 general election will take place on May 23, 2026, dismissing claims circulating on social media that the primary timetable had been altered or postponed.
In a statement released on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that the party’s election schedule remains unchanged.
Under the timetable released by the party, House of Representatives primaries will hold on May 15, followed by Senate primaries on May 18. State House of Assembly primaries are scheduled for May 20, while governorship primaries will take place on May 21.
The APC presidential primary is expected to conclude the exercise on May 23, 2026. Meanwhile, the party has begun screening incumbent governors ahead of the 2027 elections.
Among those screened are Kano Governor Abba Yusuf, Gombe Governor – Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Kebbi Governor – Nasir Idris, Plateau Governor – Caleb Mutfwang, and Benue Governor – Hyacinth Alia. Others include Delta Governor – Sheriff Oborevwori, Niger Governor – Umar Bago, Zamfara Governor – Dauda Lawal, Cross River Governor – Bassey Otu, and Sokoto Governor – Ahmed Aliyu.
