The operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, Nasarawa state command has confirmed the release of six students of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, who were abducted recently at the faculty of Engineering of the university at Gudi campus, Akwanga local government area of the state.
It would be recalled that the students were abducted at the off-campus of the university at Gudi, the country home of Governor Abdullahi Sule, on May 6, 2026.
Confirming the release of the students, Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa state police command, SP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement, explained that the abducted students regained their freedom followed sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical efforts of the operatives of the command.
According to him, two suspected kidnappers including the leader of the kidnapping syndicate, Abdullahi Yeyi Haro and Basiru Abdullahi, linked to the incident were arrested.
He maintained that the two suspects who reside in Gudi, were apprehended after diligent investigation and strategic operations by operatives of the command.
The spokesperson of the command’s, however, disclosed that the students have been reunited with their parents, and are currently receiving medical attention following their ordeal at the hands of the kidnappers.
SP Nansel narrated that the commissioner of police, CP Shetimma Jauro-Mohammed applauded the operatives for their professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment in ensuring the release of the victims, reiterating the determination of the command to rid the state of criminal elements, particularly kidnappers.
He, therefore, stated that the commissioner of police further promised that investigations are ongoing to arrest the remaining fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate and bring those involved in the crime to face justice.
The statement stated that, “The Nasarawa State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a major breakthrough recorded in the ongoing investigation into the abduction of students of the Faculty of Engineering, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Gudi Campus.
“Following sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical efforts by operatives of the Command, two suspected kidnappers linked to the incident have been arrested.
“The suspects, identified as Abdullahi Yeyi Haro, alleged leader of the kidnapping syndicate, and one Basiru Abdullahi, both males from Gudi, were apprehended after diligent investigation and strategic operations aimed at dismantling the criminal network responsible for the abduction.
“The Command is pleased to confirm that the abducted students have been safely released and reunited with their families. The victims are currently receiving medical attention and necessary support following their ordeal.
“The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, psc, mnips, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the State. He reiterated the Command’s determination to rid Nasarawa State of all forms of criminality, particularly kidnapping and other violent crimes.
“The Commissioner of Police further assured members of the public that investigations are ongoing with a view to arresting other fleeing members of the syndicate and bringing all those involved in the crime to justice.
“The Command appreciates the support and cooperation of members of the public, whose timely information and collaboration greatly contributed to the success of the operation. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and continue to provide useful information to security agencies to aid proactive crime prevention and prompt response.
