Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has been confirmed as one of the headline performers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Los Angeles.
FIFA announced on Saturday that the singer will share the stage with an international lineup that includes Tyla, Future, Katy Perry, Anitta, and LISA during the pre-match celebration at the Los Angeles Stadium.
According to FIFA, the 2026 tournament will feature three separate opening ceremonies across the host nations. Mexico City will host the first event on June 11, while Toronto and Los Angeles are scheduled to stage ceremonies on June 12.
The football governing body said the ceremonies are designed to blend sports, music, and entertainment as part of what it described as a landmark World Cup hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
FIFA added that the Los Angeles show will begin 90 minutes before kickoff and will include live performances and large-scale entertainment for fans attending the match.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the Los Angeles event as a showcase of the tournament’s global reach and cultural diversity. He said the city’s reputation as a major entertainment hub makes it an ideal setting for the celebration.
In a statement, Infantino noted that the selected artists reflect the multicultural character of the United States and the influence of diaspora communities on global music and pop culture.
The ceremony will be produced by Balich Wonder Studio and is expected to feature immersive storytelling, large-scale visuals, and performances centered around the FIFA World Cup Trophy.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition to feature 104 matches across 16 cities in the three host countries. The competition begins in Mexico City on June 11 and concludes with the final on July 19 at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
