Afrobeats superstar Davido has announced a temporary break from his music career to support the re-election campaign of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The Grammy-nominated artist made the declaration on Tuesday in Ede, Osun State, during the inauguration of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, where he serves as chairman.
Davido said the decision reflects both personal commitment and confidence in the governor’s performance in office, adding that he intends to dedicate the next two months to political mobilisation efforts.
“I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle, not only because he is my uncle but because he is doing a good job and still has more to accomplish. The job is not done,” he said.
He added that the focus of the campaign structure would be youth-driven, stressing the importance of engaging young voters across the state.
“We are all here to support him to win the election with our influence. This is one of the most important committees because it focuses on youths,” Davido stated.
The singer also urged members of the mobilisation team to intensify grassroots outreach across all local government areas in Osun State. He emphasised door-to-door engagement and effective communication of the governor’s achievements and future plans.
“Let us carry out door-to-door mobilisation across all local governments, showcasing what the governor has achieved and what he intends to do. Engage people within your communities and communicate the governor’s programmes effectively,” he said.
The campaign committee includes representatives from various federal constituencies across the state, with members assigned to coordinate mobilisation efforts in their respective regions.
Davido’s announcement marks another instance of the intersection between entertainment and politics in Nigeria, where public figures increasingly play visible roles in electoral campaigns.
