Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga has taken a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi, who announced his resignation from the ADC on Sunday, is yet to publicly declare his next political destination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Responding through a post on X, Onanuga dismissed the reasons given by the former Anambra State governor for quitting the opposition coalition-backed party, insisting Nigerians should not take his explanation seriously.
The presidential aide also accused Obi of avoiding difficult political contests, claiming he was unwilling to compete for the ADC presidential ticket alongside key opposition figures, including former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Onanuga further described Obi as an opportunistic politician who frequently changes political platforms, referencing his past affiliations with APGA, PDP, Labour Party and the ADC.
Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party after previously serving as governor of Anambra State and later as the PDP vice-presidential candidate in 2019.
He joined the ADC earlier this year as part of a broader opposition coalition seeking to challenge the ruling APC and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
