Real Zaragoza’s veteran shot-stopper, Esteban Andrada, is braced for a significant period on the sidelines after a physical altercation marred the conclusion of a high-stakes regional derby against SD Huesca. The confrontation took place in the closing moments of a crucial Segunda División fixture centered on the relegation fight, which Huesca ultimately claimed with a 1-0 victory following a strike by Óscar Sielva. As the atmosphere reached a boiling point in injury time, the 35-year-old goalkeeper was initially dismissed after receiving a second caution for shoving an opposing player.
The situation deteriorated rapidly following the initial red card. Rather than exiting the field, Andrada re-entered the field of play and struck Huesca captain Jorge Pulido in the face. This act sparked a widespread melee involving personnel from both squads, leading to further expulsions for Zaragoza’s Dani Tasende and Huesca’s Dani Jiménez.
In the aftermath of the chaos, both organizations were quick to distance themselves from the violence. Real Zaragoza issued a formal communication on Monday, categorizing the events as “unbecoming of the sport” and confirming their intent to implement domestic penalties. The club further clarified their stance, noting that “these events do not represent the values of the club,” while reaffirming their dedication to the principles of fair play and professional conduct.
Andrada has since expressed remorse for his conduct, acknowledging that he allowed his emotions to override his professional judgment during the match’s frantic finale.
“It’s not a good image for the club, for the fans, or for a professional like myself,” the goalkeeper admitted in his apology, which included a direct message to Pulido. “I accept whatever punishment comes.”
The Spanish football authorities are expected to review the referee’s report and video evidence to determine the length of the impending ban. Given the nature of the post-dismissal assault, the Argentine goalkeeper could be facing one of the most severe disciplinary rulings seen in the division this season.
