Ahead of the 2027 governorship race, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following his endorsement.
In a post shared on his X handle on Monday, Hamzat described the governor’s support as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership capacity.
“Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend, HE Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. His trust means a great deal to me”, he wrote.
He added that both men have worked closely over the years in steering the affairs of Lagos State, stressing that he does not take the endorsement lightly.
“We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I don’t take this vote of confidence lightly”, he said.
Hamzat further pledged continuity in governance and commitment to service delivery if given the opportunity to lead the state.
“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together, and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose”, he added.
The endorsement reportedly followed a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Governor Sanwo-Olu backed his deputy after he declared his intention to contest the governorship seat.
Sanwo-Olu, according to accounts from the meeting, said the decision followed consultations with key political stakeholders, including members of the Governor’s Advisory Council.
He described Hamzat as “fit and well-prepared” for the role, noting their close working relationship over the years at the highest level of state governance.
