Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has emphasised that talent alone is not sufficient to thrive in the music industry, pointing to limited access and opportunities as key barriers for many aspiring creatives.
The singer made this known while outlining the mission of the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, an initiative designed to support and develop emerging African talent.
“Music changed my life but talent alone isn’t enough, especially when access is limited,” she said, stressing the need for broader industry exposure and support systems.
Savage added that her goal is to help young creatives understand the wide range of opportunities available within the music ecosystem.
As part of the programme, more than 100 participants who have undergone training through the foundation are set to headline a grand finale concert on April 26. The initiative is in partnership with the Berklee College of Music.
The event will hold at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, with Nigerian entertainer Darey Art Alade and media personality Kie Kie scheduled to host.
Beyond launching music careers, Savage said the foundation aims to cultivate industry leaders across various roles, including production, management, and executive positions.
“I don’t just want to launch artists; I want to build leaders, producers, executives and owners who will shape the future of the music industry,” she said.
She further noted that the long-term vision is to create a cycle of mentorship, where beneficiaries go on to support and inspire the next generation of creatives.
Savage added that the initiative’s success would be measured by its impact on individuals, particularly those from underserved communities who gain life-changing opportunities through the programme.
