Nigerian actor Yul Edochie has stirred conversation online after speaking out against the common practice of men kneeling to propose marriage.
In a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter), the actor described the gesture as demeaning, arguing that it undermines a man’s dignity. He advised men to remain standing while proposing, framing it as a more self-assured and respectful approach.
Edochie, who has recently been vocal about relationship dynamics, maintained that kneeling during proposals makes men “look stupid” and should be avoided entirely.
He further suggested that men should reconsider relationships where such expectations are imposed. According to him, any woman who insists on a kneeling proposal as a condition for acceptance does not genuinely value her partner.
The actor emphasised that love should not require what he considers self-degrading acts, adding that a partner who truly cares would not encourage such behaviour.
His remarks have since triggered mixed reactions across social media, with some users supporting his stance on self-respect, while others argue that kneeling is a symbolic and widely accepted romantic gesture.
Edochie’s comments add to his growing presence in online discussions around relationships and social norms, where he continues to share opinions that often generate public debate.
