The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has announced Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha as hosts of its 12th edition.
The announcement marks a major shift for the awards ceremony, ending the long-standing hosting streak of IK Osakioduwa, who has anchored the event since its inception in 2013, hosting 11 consecutive editions.
Organisers described the new hosting duo as a blend of humour, storytelling, and international screen presence, highlighting their combined influence across African entertainment.
In a statement shared on Instagram, they said the pairing represents “a master of wit and narrative, and a global icon of screen and advocacy,” adding that the collaboration reflects African excellence on a global stage.
Bovi, known for his stand-up comedy and storytelling style, has built a strong reputation in Nigeria’s entertainment scene. Nomzamo Mbatha, on the other hand, is recognised for her acting career and humanitarian work across the continent.
The organisers noted that the duo is expected to bring humour, elegance, and pan-African appeal to the awards night.
This year’s AMVCA nominees were unveiled last month, with films such as Gingerrr and The Herd leading the pack with nine nominations each. To Kill A Monkey followed closely with eight nominations, while My Father’s Shadow by the Davies brothers secured seven.
The 12th edition of the AMVCA is expected to continue its tradition of celebrating excellence in African film and television, while introducing a refreshed hosting dynamic for one of the continent’s most prestigious entertainment events.
