Following the resignation of Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa, the Presidency has clarified that both former ministers voluntarily stepped down before President Bola Tinubu announced their replacements.
In a statement on Wednesday signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was stated that the resignations were independently submitted prior to the latest Federal Executive Council changes.
According to the statement, Wale Edun, who marked his 70th birthday on Monday and had been managing health challenges, submitted his resignation on the same day, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration.
In his letter, Edun described his service under President Tinubu as a privilege, noting that Nigeria had become “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected” under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He also wished the administration continued success.
He was also said to have paid a farewell visit to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, where he held a private meeting with the President before stepping aside to attend to personal matters.
Similarly, Ahmed Dangiwa also resigned, thanking President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council.
In response, Tinubu expressed appreciation to both former ministers for their contributions to the administration’s economic and housing reforms, describing their service as significant to ongoing policy direction.
Following their exit, the President directed the incoming Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to strengthen ongoing reforms and advance fiscal and economic policies with renewed discipline and innovation.
The Presidency also disclosed that a nominee for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
The development comes amid a minor adjustment in the Federal Executive Council aimed at strengthening governance and improving policy delivery.
