Lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday declared support for Governor Seyi Makinde and Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, rejecting claims of an alleged impeachment move in the state.
The resolution was reached during plenary in Ibadan, where lawmakers stressed unity within the legislature and denied any form of internal division or political crisis.
Leading the motion, Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, described the impeachment rumours as false, misleading, and politically driven, insisting that no formal process or communication of such nature exists within the Assembly.
He stated that the House remains focused on its constitutional duties and is not engaged in any impeachment-related discussions against the governor or any other office holder.
Lawmakers also addressed recent political speculations linking Governor Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and some legislators to alleged political scheming, dismissing the claims as unfounded.
The rumours had earlier been fueled by public comments from former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who alleged political manoeuvres involving the monarch, claims which have since been denied by both the state government and the palace.
At the sitting, Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Fadeyi seconded the motion of confidence, praising the unity of the House and commending the Makinde administration for its performance in infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola also rejected suggestions of impeachment talks, warning against the spread of unverified reports and urging the public to disregard such claims.
He maintained that the Assembly remains united and committed to delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State, adding that it would not be swayed by speculation or external influence.
