Former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son have been re-arraigned by the Department of State Services on fresh charges of alleged terrorism and illegal possession of firearms.
The defendants appeared before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik after the DSS filed a fresh charge to replace an earlier one. Prosecution counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, informed the court of the amendment and requested that the new charge be read, a move that was not opposed by defence counsel, Shaibu Aruwa.
Both Malami and his son pleaded not guilty after the amended charge was read in court. The new filing alleges that in December 2025, at the Geeze Phase II area of Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State, the defendants unlawfully possessed a firearm, live cartridges, and expended ammunition, with intent linked to acts of terrorism.
They are also accused of conspiring to commit acts of terrorism, contrary to the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Following their plea, the prosecution asked for a trial date, while the defence urged the court to allow the defendants to remain on the bail earlier granted, noting compliance with all conditions. The request was not opposed.
Justice Abdulmalik subsequently ruled that the defendants should continue on the existing bail granted on February 27. The case was adjourned until May 26 and June 15 for trial.
