The Nigeria Customs Service women’s volleyball team launched their quest for continental glory with a resilient 3-1 triumph over Kampala Capital City Authority on the inaugural day of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship. Competing in Cairo this past Monday, the Nigerian representatives demonstrated significant composure to overcome an initial deficit and claim their first win in the Pool C standings.
The match began with a narrow setback for the Customs side, as they dropped a tightly contested opening set 24-26 to their Ugandan opponents. Refusing to be deterred, the squad orchestrated a powerful turnaround, asserting their dominance in the subsequent frames. By securing three consecutive sets with scores of 25-20, 25-16, and 24-19, the Nigerian outfit effectively neutralized the threat from the Kampala-based team to finalize an essential opening result.
In simultaneous Pool D action, the competitive landscape saw Vipers and Partners fall to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Letto Team. The encounter was marked by early Cameroonian superiority, as Letto Team dismantled their opposition with a lopsided 25-6 scoreline in the first set. Although Vipers managed to mount a spirited defense to take the second set 25-22, the momentum quickly swung back.
Letto Team reclaimed their tactical advantage in the third set, winning it 25-19, before delivering a decisive 25-13 finish in the fourth. The victory ensures a strong start for the Cameroonian side as they look to navigate the challenges of the group stages in the Egyptian capital.
