Nigerian singer and songwriter Asa has announced the death of her mother, sharing a heartfelt tribute that revealed the loss was caused by a sudden brain tumour.
The artist, whose real name is Bukola Elemide, made the announcement on Tuesday, March 24, through her Instagram page, where she posted photos and a personal message mourning her mother.
In the emotional post, Asa wrote, “My mother, my reason to be, my queen, my everything. A sudden brain tumor came without warning and took you too soon. You were generous. The kindest soul. You had your own quiet swag, you were extremely shy, and so funny. My biggest fan. You couldn’t hold a note to save your life, but you sang every one of my songs with your whole heart. Your strength, your love, your spirit will remain with me forever. Rest now, Mum.”
She described her late mother as a deeply kind and supportive figure who played a significant role in her life and career, highlighting her warmth, humour, and unwavering encouragement.
The singer, known for her soulful sound and introspective music, did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding her mother’s death or funeral arrangements.
Following the announcement, fans and fellow artistes flooded social media with messages of sympathy, offering support as she mourns the loss of her mum who she described as her “biggest fan.”
